An estimated 10% of the population in the US has tried edibles at least once, with more people taking them in states where cannabis use has been legalized. If you're trying cannabis edibles for the first time, it's important to understand what to expect.

With the right knowledge and mindset, edibles can offer a fun, relaxing, and controlled experience. However, unlike smoking or vaping, edibles can take longer to kick in, and their effects may last much longer. That's why beginners need to understand how to approach dosing safely.

This guide breaks down the basics of edible dosing, what to expect when consuming, and the top mistakes to avoid so your first experience is both safe and enjoyable.

Dosing is Key: Mastering the Milligram

The active ingredient, THC, is measured in milligrams (mg). Knowing how much you're consuming is the first step toward a positive experience.

A good rule of thumb is to start low and go slow. Most first-time users should begin with just 2.5–5 mg of THC to allow the body time to adjust without overwhelming side effects. Always pay close attention to product labeling, since many THC gummies, chocolates, or baked goods list both the total milligrams per package and the amount per piece, which can vary widely.

Your personal tolerance also plays a role. While experienced cannabis users may handle higher doses, even 5 mg can feel strong for beginners. Unlike smoking cannabis, where you can feel the effects within minutes, edibles rely on digestion. This means THC is metabolized differently, which can lead to more intense and longer-lasting effects that can take a little longer to kick in.

The Edibles Experience: Onset, Peak, and Duration

It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours for effects to kick in, which is why patience is so important. Taking more too soon is one of the most common mistakes new users make, which can make the experience less than ideal.

Once edibles begin working, their effects usually peak around the 2–4 hour mark, meaning you can get a strong, long-lasting high. Depending on your dose and metabolism, those effects may continue for 6–8 hours or longer. Due to the extended duration, it is essential to create a plan before taking your first edible. Make sure you're in a safe, comfortable environment with no urgent responsibilities so you can fully enjoy the experience without compromising your safety.

Top 5 Mistakes to Avoid When Trying Edibles for the First Time

Avoid these mistakes to set yourself up for an enjoyable and calm experience, rather than one that is overwhelming and potentially dangerous.

            Taking too much too soon.

The biggest mistake new edibles users make is becoming impatient when they don't have an immediate reaction. Resist the urge to redose if you don't feel anything right away.

            Not reading the label.

Misunderstanding how much THC is in a single gummy or cookie can lead to an unpleasant surprise. Ask your dispensary any questions to make sure you fully understand what is inside the edible you plan on taking.

            Mixing with alcohol.

Combining edibles with alcohol can intensify adverse side effects like dizziness, nausea, or anxiety.

            Skipping meals.

Eating edibles on an empty stomach can cause their effects to feel stronger and hit faster, which is not necessarily a good thing.

            Ignoring your environment.

Setting matters when you're taking an edible. Consume it in a familiar, safe place where you can relax.

           Understanding Cannabis Extracts

Cannabis extracts are concentrated forms of the plant's active ingredients, like cannabinoids and terpenes, which give cannabis its unique effects and flavors. These extracts are made through various methods to capture and preserve these compounds, offering a more intense experience than traditional flower.

Extracts are prized for their consistent and potent effects, making them a favorite among those looking for a more substantial experience. Consumers can choose products that match their preferences and needs by learning about different extracts, such as live resin and distillate.

           What Is Live Resin?

Thanks to its unique extraction process, live resin stands out for its vibrant flavor and aroma. By flash-freezing the cannabis plant right after harvest, this method captures the plant's terpenes and cannabinoids in their freshest state. Solvents like butane or propane are used to extract these compounds, ensuring the final product retains the plant's whole essence. This makes live resin a favorite among those who appreciate a rich, true-to-plant experience, especially when dabbing or vaporizing.

           What Is Distillate?

Distillate is prized for its high potency and flexibility. The extraction process involves heating and applying vacuum pressure to separate cannabinoids from impurities, resulting in a nearly pure product. This clear, odorless oil can reach THC levels of 90% or more. Its adaptability makes it a go-to for those seeking a strong, consistent effect, whether in edibles, vape cartridges, or other forms. Often, terpenes are added back to enhance flavor.

Live Resin vs Distillate: Key Differences

Comparing live resin and distillate allows their distinct characteristics to shine. Distillate generally boasts higher potency due to its concentrated cannabinoids, often reaching THC levels of 90% or more. This makes it an excellent choice for users seeking a powerful effect. On the other hand, while slightly less potent, live resin offers a unique purity in terms of flavor and aroma. Its terpene-rich profile provides a full-bodied experience that many connoisseurs prefer.

The sensory experience of each extract also sets them apart. Live resin is celebrated for its vibrant, true-to-plant taste and smell, delivering a sensory journey that mirrors the original cannabis plant. Distillate, being more refined, usually lacks this depth but compensates with added terpenes for flavor enhancement.

In terms of consumption methods, live resin is ideal for those who enjoy dabbing or vaporizing, offering an intense and flavorful hit. Distillate, however, is versatile and can be incorporated into edibles, vape cartridges, and more, providing a clean and potent effect without the pungent aroma associated with live resin.

Choosing the Right Extract for Your Needs

Deciding between live resin and distillate largely depends on personal preferences. If flavor and aroma are priorities, live resin is likely the better choice, offering an experience close to the natural plant. Distillate might be more appealing for those seeking high potency and versatility, especially for edibles or discreet use. Consider your tolerance, desired effect intensity, and consumption method to find the best fit.

Ultimately, choosing between live resin and distillate depends on what you value in your cannabis experience. Whether it's the vibrant flavors of live resin or the potent versatility of distillate, both offer unique benefits. For more information,

Understanding the Basics of Cannabis Seed Germination

Germination marks the beginning of a cannabis plant's life, transforming seeds into seedlings. This stage is crucial because it sets the foundation for the plant's future health and yield. During germination, seeds absorb water, swell, and eventually split open, allowing the embryonic root to emerge and anchor itself.

Several factors can influence germination success:

Moisture: Seeds need a consistent level of dampness to activate growth enzymes, but too much moisture can cause mold or rot.

Temperature: Cannabis seeds thrive in warmth, ideally between 70-85°F (21-29°C).

Light: While light isn't necessary at first, it becomes important once seedlings surface, as it triggers photosynthesis.

By grasping these fundamentals, home growers can create the right conditions for germination, paving the way for a successful cultivation experience.

How to Germinate Weed Seeds: Step-by-Step Guide

Starting your cannabis cultivation journey begins with properly germinating your seeds. This lays a strong foundation for healthy plant growth.

           1. Selecting Quality Seeds

Choosing the right seeds enhances successful germination. Look for seeds that are dark brown with a glossy finish, as these are more likely to be viable. Avoid green or white seeds, which are often immature. A good seed should feel firm and not crack easily under gentle pressure. Sourcing seeds from reputable suppliers can significantly boost your chances of successful germination.

           2. Preparing the Germination Environment

Cannabis seeds need warmth, darkness, and moisture to sprout. Aim for a temperature between 70 and 85°F (21 and 29°C). To maintain moisture, consider using a humidity dome or a plastic cover. Gather materials like paper towels, a small plate, or a seedling tray to set up your germination area. These conditions will help activate the seeds and support their development.

           3. Germination Methods

There are several ways to germinate cannabis seeds, each with its benefits. The paper towel method is popular for its simplicity. Place seeds between moist paper towels in a warm, dark spot until they sprout. Alternatively, planting seeds directly in soil can minimize the risk of damaging roots during transplanting. Choose a method that fits your comfort level and resources.

           4. Monitoring and Caring for Germinating Seeds

Once seeds are in the germination environment, regular monitoring is essential. Keep the medium damp but not waterlogged, and maintain a stable temperature. When seeds sprout and the taproot appears, handle them carefully to avoid damaging the roots. Transplant them into a growing medium as needed, ensuring they receive adequate light to transition into seedlings. Following these steps will set you up for a successful cannabis-growing experience.

           Common Germination Challenges and Solutions

Even with the best preparation, home growers can face hurdles during germination. A frequent issue is seeds failing to sprout, often due to age or poor storage. To avoid this, always buy fresh seeds from trusted sources and keep them in a cool, dark spot until you're ready to plant.

Mold is another challenge caused by too much moisture. Keep the environment humid but not wet, and check regularly for mold. If you spot any, remove the affected seeds and clean the area to stop it from spreading.

Temperature swings can also disrupt germination. Keeping a steady temperature is key. Using a heat mat or placing your setup in a stable spot can help maintain the right conditions.

Cannabis users prefer dabbing because it’s potent and delicious. Because of its increase in popularity, it’s wise to understand how temperature affects flavor, potency, and safety. That way, you can select the right temperature to make all the difference.

Take a look at the best temperatures for dabbing, how different ranges impact taste and strength, and why you need to choose the right concentrates, dab rigs, and temperature control tools to enhance your sessions.

           Dab Temperature and Its Importance

Dabbing is all about vaporizing cannabis concentrates on a heated surface, like a nail, and inhaling the vapor. The temperature you choose is the most important factor, because it shapes your entire experience. Different temperatures cause cannabinoids and terpenes to vaporize at different rates, which impacts flavor and potency. Lower temperatures keep terpenes intact for a flavorful hit, while higher temperatures ramp up intensity and potency.

Best Dab Temp: Finding the Right Range

Nailing the right temperature range is the secret to getting the most out of your cannabis concentrates. The ideal temperature lets you enjoy all the flavors and effects without sacrificing comfort or safety.

           Low-Temperature Dabs (315-450°F)

Low-temp dabbing is a favorite among people who value flavor over strength. These temperatures preserve more terpenes to offer a smoother, tastier hit. The downside? You might lose some potency since not all cannabinoids vaporize fully at these settings. This range is perfect for savoring the subtle flavors of your concentrates.

           Medium-Temperature Dabs (450-600°F)

Medium temperatures strike a balance by delivering a mix of flavor and potency. This range is popular because it produces robust vapor while keeping some terpene integrity. Many users find this the sweet spot, offering a satisfying experience without losing too much flavor or strength.

           High-Temperature Dabs (600°F and above)

High-temp dabs are for people who want the maximum potency and quick effects. Cannabinoids vaporize fast at these temperatures to provide a powerful hit. This can, however, lead to harsher hits and a big loss of flavor. There's also a risk of inhaling harmful byproducts, so approach this range carefully.

           Safety Considerations for Dabbing

Safety is paramount in dabbing. Using quality equipment like dab rigs and temperature control devices ensures a safer experience. Incorrect settings can lead to overheating, which not only dulls flavor but also poses health risks from harmful compounds. Keep your gear well-maintained and calibrated.

When dabbing, you must prioritize safety by using the correct equipment and maintaining proper temperature settings. Investing in a reliable dab rig and a precise temperature control device can significantly enhance your experience. These tools help in achieving the desired flavor and potency. They also minimize health risks associated with overheating. It’s also smart to make sure your equipment is clean and in good working condition to prevent any unwanted residue or buildup that could affect the quality of your dabs. By taking these precautions, you can enjoy a more consistent and enjoyable dabbing session every time.

           Enhancing Your Dabbing Experience

To get the most from your dabbing sessions, consider investing in temperature control devices for precise adjustments. High-quality concentrates and well-crafted dab rigs can elevate your experience. Accessories like carb caps help regulate airflow and temperature to effectively maximize your dabs.

           Cannabis Extraction Methods

Extracting cannabinoids like THC and CBD from the cannabis plant is a necessary step in creating potent concentrates. The quality of these products hinges on the extraction method used, as it affects potency and purity. Safe and clean techniques are required to ensure the final product meets consumer expectations. The industry utilizes a range of methods, each with distinct advantages and challenges.

Choosing the right extraction method is pivotal for product effectiveness and consumer safety. Common techniques include CO2 extraction, solvent-based, and solventless methods, each offering unique benefits. Understanding these processes helps consumers make informed decisions about their purchases. By focusing on safe and transparent extraction, Flo Dispensary positions itself as a trusted source for top-quality cannabis products.

           How Is THC Wax Made?

Creating THC wax starts with selecting premium cannabis flowers, which are ground finely to maximize extraction efficiency. The extraction process typically involves solvents like butane or propane, chosen for their ability to draw out cannabinoids such as THC effectively. The solvent passes through the ground cannabis, dissolving the desired compounds. This mixture is then collected, and the solvent is carefully purged using heat and vacuum pressure to ensure no harmful residues remain. The result is a concentrated THC substance.

The final product is a sticky, wax-like concentrate that undergoes further refinement to achieve the desired texture and consistency. This may involve additional purging or whipping to create different types of concentrates, such as budder or shatter. Each step is closely monitored to maintain the purity and potency of the wax, ensuring a safe product for consumers.

           Popular Weed Extraction Techniques

The cannabis industry employs various extraction techniques, each with its benefits and challenges. CO2 extraction is favored for producing clean, potent concentrates without harmful solvents, using supercritical carbon dioxide as a safe alternative. However, the equipment for CO2 extraction can be costly, which can impact the product's price.

Solvent-based extraction, using butane or ethanol, is effective for high THC levels but requires meticulous handling to eliminate solvent residues. Quality control is critical. Solventless methods, like ice water extraction or dry sifting, rely on mechanical processes to separate trichomes. They’re valued for their purity and natural quality, though they may not match the potency of solvent-based methods.

Each technique offers unique advantages, and the choice of how to extract THC depends on the desired product and consumer preferences.

Safety and quality in cannabis extraction are critical. The process must meet strict standards to ensure the final product is free from contaminants and safe for consumption. This involves rigorous quality control from raw material selection to final packaging.

           What Are Cannabis Concentrates?

Cannabis concentrates like shatter and wax are a category of products made from extracted, heavily concentrated cannabinoids. They offer much higher levels of THC than flowers because manufacturers extract the compounds with solvents or a combination of heat and pressure. As a result, they offer stronger physical and psychoactive effects. Research into shatter vs. wax shows that the primary differences result from the varied preparation methods, resulting in different textures.

While cannabis concentrates all center around the core concept of concentrated doses, they come in many different options, such as budder, crumble, oil, shatter, and wax. Some are liquid, some are solid, and they each have different textures. Depending on your preferred style, you can add concentrates to flowers, add them to edible recipes, vape with them, or dab them.

           How Each One Works

Two of the most popular cannabis concentrates are shatter and wax. Here's how they work:

Shatter

To make shatter concentrate, manufacturers use solvents to extract THC and terpenes from cannabis plants and make an oil. Next, they refine the oil, removing solvents and fats, to create a solid but brittle product. You can dab shatter by heating it up and vaporizing it, making a potent dose of cannabinoids every time. If you want to try shatter, common tools are dab pens, vape pens, and dab rigs.

Shatter breaks easily into shards but is very shelf stable. It tends to have a much higher concentration of THC than wax, but the extra filtration processes reduce the presence of terpenes.

Manufacturers also produce wax by using butane or other solvents to extract cannabinoids from cannabis plant material. After extraction, manufacturers purge and refine the oil, producing a smooth resin-like substance instead of a crumbly or brittle one. If you want to dab wax, you can use a dab rig to vaporize the wax concentrate and then inhale the smoke. The highly concentrated THC reaches your brain quickly, resulting in potent and near-immediate effects.

Wax is pliable and easy to handle and create specific doses, but it isn't as shelf-stable as shatter. It's potent but not as potent and tends to have a stronger terpene profile.

When you're comparing wax vs. shatter, it's important to consider the effects. Shatter delivers highly concentrated doses of THC through inhaled smoke, and the THC quickly reaches your brain, binding to the cannabinoid receptors and causing effects like happiness, euphoria, and relaxation. However, some users may feel paranoia and increase their heart rate, so it's important to avoid overconsumption.

Shatter tends to have more concentrated amounts of THC, resulting in a stronger high than wax (though both products deliver concentrated cannabinoids). Not only are the effects strong, but many people find that the high lasts longer.

The Basics of Cooking With Cannabis

Before jumping into recipes, it's helpful to learn about the basics of cooking with cannabis. It’s a bit more complicated than you might be expecting, so make sure you know what you’re doing or risk wasting a bunch of your cannabis.

A major step in cooking with cannabis is decarboxylation, which transforms THCA into THC, the compound that gives cannabis its psychoactive effects. To decarboxylate, heat the cannabis at a low temperature, around 220-245°F (105-120°C), for 30-45 minutes. This ensures your dishes have the desired impact.

Cannabis can be incorporated into cooking in various forms. Cannabis-infused oils and butters, or cannabutter, are popular because they can be used in savory dishes and desserts. Tinctures, which are alcohol-based extracts, offer another option, allowing you to add cannabis to meals without changing the texture significantly.

Cannabutter is a must-have for cannabis cooking, offering a flexible base for countless dishes. Here's a simple way to prepare it:

Ingredients:

            1 cup unsalted butter

            1 cup water

            7-10 grams of decarboxylated cannabis

Instructions:

Gently melt the butter with water in a saucepan over low heat.

            Stir in the decarboxylated cannabis.

Let it simmer on low for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally, without letting it boil.

           Tips:

Begin with a small amount to test potency. Keep cannabutter in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks or freeze for longer storage.

Tips for Safe and Effective Cooking With Cannabis

Keep safety in mind when cooking with cannabis. Start with small amounts, especially if you're new to this. Edibles take longer to kick in than smoking or vaping, often between 30 minutes to 2 hours, so it's easy to overdo it if you're impatient.

Edibles can also be stronger and last longer than other cannabis forms, so it's wise to label homemade treats clearly to avoid accidental consumption by those unaware of their contents.

Comprehending the Color Change in Marijuana

Why does weed turn purple? This color change results from a fascinating process driven by pigments known as anthocyanins. These pigments, also found in fruits like berries and grapes, give plants their red, purple, and blue hues. In cannabis, anthocyanins become more visible under specific conditions, resulting in the eye-catching purple shades that many cannabis enthusiasts admire.

It's a common myth that purple weed strains are stronger than green varieties. The color doesn't indicate potency or THC levels. The allure of purple cannabis often creates a perception of superior quality, influencing consumer choices.

Knowing why cannabis changes color helps consumers make smarter decisions when picking strains. Buyers can focus on effects and flavors rather than just looks by understanding anthocyanins and debunking potency myths. This insight enriches the buying experience and showcases the diverse and intricate nature of cannabis.

Factors That Cause Weed to Turn Purple

Several factors can impact a weed’s color scheme, including genetics, environmental conditions, and purple bud rot.

            Genetics and Strain Type:

The color of cannabis is largely dictated by its genetics. Certain strains are naturally inclined to produce more anthocyanins, the pigments that give plants their purple hue. Strains like Purple Haze, Granddaddy Purple, and Purple Kush are famous for their striking colors and are popular among enthusiasts due to their unique look and flavor. Knowing the genetic makeup of a strain can guide you in selecting cannabis that naturally showcases the colors you prefer.

            Environmental Conditions:

The environment plays a part in the color transformation of cannabis plants. Cooler nighttime temperatures can intensify the purple shades by making anthocyanins more visible. Light exposure also affects color, with optimal lighting bringing out more vibrant hues. Plus, the pH level and nutrient balance in the soil can influence color changes. A slightly acidic environment can enhance anthocyanin expression, while imbalances in nutrients might alter the plant's appearance. Growers can adjust conditions to achieve the desired purple tint by learning these environmental factors.

            Purple Bud Rot:

While purple cannabis is often prized, you must learn to differentiate between natural color changes and issues like purple bud rot. This fungal infection can cause buds to discolor and decay, compromising the plant's health and quality. Symptoms include a musty odor, soft or mushy buds, and unusual color changes. Maintain proper humidity, ensure good air circulation, and regularly check plants for early signs of infection to prevent purple bud rot. Awareness of these factors is necessary for cultivating a healthy cannabis crop.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Purple Weed

Purple weed captivates many with its striking colors, adding a visual element to the cannabis experience. These vibrant hues often accompany unique flavors and aromas, like fruity or earthy notes, enhancing the sensory appeal for many users.

However, misconceptions abound. The color doesn't guarantee higher quality or potency. Purple weed's appearance isn't linked to THC levels or effects. Instead, focus on the strain's cannabinoid and terpene profiles to know its potential impact.

What Is PGR Weed & How to Spot It: Identify Harmful Plant Growth Regulators

Do you ever wonder why some buds look unnaturally dense or feel too hard? You might be looking at PGR weed. Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) are chemicals sometimes used during cultivation to alter how cannabis plants grow. While they can change a bud’s appearance, they often come at the cost of quality, taste, and even safety.

If you're curious about how to spot PGR weed and make smarter choices at the dispensary, you’re in the right place.

           What Is PGR

PGR stands for Plant Growth Regulators, which are chemical substances farmers use in agriculture to control how plants grow and develop. They often apply PGRs to increase crop yields, manage plant height, stimulate flowering, or control ripening times.

These chemicals can alter the natural life cycle of plants by speeding up, slowing down, or changing growth patterns. When used correctly, PGRs can help farmers maximize efficiency and improve harvest predictability across many types of crops.

           What Is PGR in Weed

In cannabis cultivation, some growers use PGRs to boost production, create dense buds, or shorten growing cycles. While this might improve appearance or yields, it compromises the plant’s natural quality, flavour, potency, and safety.

Common PGRs found in cannabis include:

            Paclobutrazol:

Slows natural growth processes and may reduce THC levels.

Daminozide (Alar):

Used to increase yields, but banned for consumable crops in many countries due to health concerns.

            Chlormequat chloride:

Restricts plant height but often flattens the plant's natural aroma and flavour profile.

PGR-grown weed often feels heavier, tastes harsher, and lacks the rich, vibrant scents and effects found in naturally cultivated cannabis. Worse yet, chemical residues left behind by some PGRs could present health risks over time. That’s why spotting PGR weed matters for experience and safety.

           How to Spot PGR Weed

Identifying PGR weed can help you make smarter, safer choices when buying cannabis. While some signs are easy to notice, the combination of how the bud looks, smells, and feels tells the whole story.

           Visual Indicators of PGR Weed

            Dense, rock-hard buds:

PGR weed often feels unnaturally tight or heavy. PGRs can cause plants to produce extra cell walls, making buds overly compact.

            Muted colors:

Look for dull greens or browns. Healthy, natural cannabis usually has a vibrant appearance with shades of green, purple, or orange.

            Unnatural shape:

Buds may seem oddly swollen, round, or "puffy," lacking naturally grown flowers' more tapered, leafy structure.

Good cannabis should look frosty with trichomes, not artificially dense or lifeless.

           Sensory Indicators of PGR Weed

            Weaker aroma:

Natural cannabis offers a bold scent thanks to terpene profiles. PGR weed often smells flat, grassy, or slightly chemical.

            Dry texture:

PGR buds may feel overly dry and lack the healthy flower buds’ sticky, resinous quality.

            Harsher smoke:

A scratchy throat or coughing fits during smoking could lead to chemical residue.

            Bland taste:

Instead of vibrant, earthy, fruity, or spicy notes, PGR weed may taste dull, bitter, or harsh.

If your cannabis feels dry, smells muted, and lacks that "sticky" freshness, it’s worth questioning its quality.

            Lab testing:

Certified labs can run chemical analyses to detect traces of common PGRs like Paclobutrazol or Daminozide. A clear lab report gives peace of mind that you're consuming safe, clean cannabis.

            COA review:

Always ask your dispensary for a Certificate of Analysis (COA). It should confirm your flower is free from unsafe chemical additives, heavy metals, and pesticides.

How to Identify Moldy Weed: Signs, Risks & Tips

Spotting mold on your cannabis improves quality and safety. Moldy weed can lead to health issues if smoked, so knowing the signs is essential. All home growers should learn to identify mold on weed and understand the risks involved. Helpful tips can prevent mold growth, ensuring your cannabis remains safe to use.

           Understanding Mold on Weed

Mold is a fungus that loves damp, warm spots, and it can seriously affect your cannabis. When mold takes hold, it often appears as a fuzzy or powdery coating in white, gray, or green. This ruins the quality of your weed and can also be a health hazard.

You'll typically find molds like Aspergillus, Botrytis (or "bud rot"), and Penicillium on cannabis. Each brings its problems, but none are welcome. Aspergillus, for instance, can release mycotoxins that might cause respiratory issues if inhaled.

Moldy cannabis can mess with its effects and potentially harm your health. Staying alert to the condition of your cannabis ensures a safer and more enjoyable experience.

           Signs of Moldy Weed

Visually, mold appears as a fuzzy or powdery layer on the buds, often in shades of white, gray, green, or even black. These colors can be subtle, so you should examine your cannabis closely, especially around the stem or inside the bud, where moisture tends to gather.

Beyond appearance, the smell can be a giveaway. Moldy weed often has a musty, mildew-like scent, quite different from the usual earthy or skunky aroma of fresh cannabis. If your cannabis smells off or unusually strong, it might be moldy.

Texture changes are another indicator. Moldy cannabis might feel damp or overly soft, unlike the dry, crisp texture of properly cured weed. Since moisture is a major factor in mold growth, cannabis stored in humid conditions is more prone to mold. Always store your weed in a dry, controlled environment to reduce this risk.

What Happens if You Smoke Moldy Weed?

Smoking moldy cannabis can seriously impact your health. Inhaling mold spores may lead to respiratory issues, particularly for those with weakened immune systems or existing lung conditions. Symptoms like coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath are common. In severe cases, mold exposure might trigger infections or allergic reactions.

Certain molds, such as Aspergillus, produce mycotoxins, which are harmful compounds that can irritate the lungs and potentially cause chronic respiratory problems with prolonged exposure. Consuming moldy weed might also lead to headaches, nausea, and fatigue, detracting from the cannabis experience.

To safeguard your health, avoid moldy weed. Always inspect your cannabis thoroughly and choose reliable sources like Flo Dispensary.

How to Prevent Mold on Weed

To keep your cannabis mold-free, start with smart storage. Control humidity by keeping your stash in a space with 59% to 63% relative humidity. Humidity control packs can help maintain this balance. Opt for airtight glass jars to shield your weed from moisture and air, and avoid plastic bags that can trap dampness.

Regularly inspect your cannabis. Check for any unusual colors or fuzzy textures that might indicate mold. A musty smell is another red flag. Store your cannabis in a cool, dark spot, away from direct sunlight and heat, which can boost moisture levels and encourage mold.

Detect Mold Early and Enjoy Safe Cannabis

Spotting mold on your cannabis is key to keeping your experience both safe and enjoyable. Recognizing signs like odd colors, musty odors, and texture changes can help you steer clear of health issues. Storing your cannabis properly by managing humidity and using airtight containers prevents mold.

What Are Terpenes & What Do They Do: Aromas, Effects & Benefits

Terpenes are key to understanding cannabis’s unique characteristics. If you've ever wondered, “What are terpenes in weed?” They’re the compounds behind each strain’s aroma and flavor. Knowing about terpenes helps consumers choose strains that match their preferences. Explore their origins, effects, and role in the cannabis experience.

Understanding Terpenes: Enhancing Your Cannabis Experience

Cannabis isn't just about THC and CBD. Terpenes, the aromatic compounds found in many plants, are key players in shaping the unique character of each cannabis strain. These molecules do more than just create the distinctive scents of different weed varieties; they're integral to the plant's survival and may even influence how cannabis affects users.

The cannabis plant produces terpenes and cannabinoids in the same glands, working together to create their essential oils. Terpenes protect the plant from pests and environmental threats and attract pollinators, ensuring the species' survival.

Terpenes help cannabis enthusiasts refine their experience. Understanding terpene profiles allows for better strain selection based on effects and preferences. Whether you seek relaxation, energy, or specific flavors, terpenes guide your choice.

What Do Terpenes Do in Weed?

Ever wonder why some strains smell like lemons while others reek of diesel? That's terpenes at work. These aromatic compounds don't just give cannabis its distinctive scent; they're the unsung heroes shaping your entire weed experience.

Take Lemon Haze, for example. Its zesty citrus kick comes from limonene, a terpene also found in actual lemons. On the flip side, OG Kush's earthy, pine-like aroma? Thank pinene for that forest-fresh scent.

But terpenes aren't just about smell and taste. They team up with cannabinoids like THC and CBD in what's called the "entourage effect." This interaction may explain why different strains can make you feel energized, relaxed, or creative, even with similar THC levels.

While research still catches up, early studies hint at some intriguing possibilities. Myrcene, one of the most common terpenes in cannabis, might help you unwind after a long day. Limonene could potentially boost your mood. And caryophyllene? It might even help ease discomfort.

Understanding terpenes can transform your dispensary visits from guesswork into a personalized experience. Instead of just chasing THC percentages, you can choose strains that align with your desired effects, whether that's mellowing out or getting a creative boost.

           Do Terpenes Get You High?

Contrary to popular belief, terpenes themselves don't get you high. These aromatic compounds lack the psychoactive punch of THC, cannabis's main ingredient. However, terpenes aren't just passive bystanders in your cannabis experience. They work behind the scenes, potentially influencing how THC affects you through the "entourage effect."

Think of terpenes as the supporting cast to THC's lead role. While they don't steal the show, they can certainly shape the performance. For example, myrcene might amplify THC's relaxing effects, while limonene could add an uplifting twist to your high. By paying attention to terpene profiles, you can fine-tune your cannabis journey to match your mood and desired effects.

Difference Between Live Resin & Rosin: Extraction Methods & Potency

Rosin and resin are both concentrates that can be made from cannabis plant material, and it is important to understand the difference between the two. They are both potent extracts that preserve the plant's natural resin at its peak freshness by using low temperatures during extraction and also by immediately freezing the buds at the time of harvest. The key difference is in the method of production. Live resin is produced through a method of extraction based on solvents, while live rosin uses a solventless process that uses only heat and pressure to squeeze out the resin.

What Is Live Rosin?

Live rosin is a solventless cannabis concentrate that is created by applying heat and pressure to fresh or dried cannabis material. It offers a more refined representation of the plant, and while the extraction is time-consuming, it results in a much more complex flavor profile.

Which One Gets You Higher?

When it comes time for anyone to decide between rosin and resin, it is only natural that one of the first things they want to know is which one will get them higher. Potency is an important factor to consider, so everyone should keep in mind that live resin is slightly more potent than live rosin. The reason for this is due to the more intricate extraction procedure that resin undergoes. The maximum amount of THC is able to be extracted from each batch of resin, mostly due to the use of solvents. Although live resin is known for getting you higher than live rosin, some find that live rosin is an option when live rosin is just too potent.

How to Store Rosin & Resin

Different storage solutions are required for different concentrates. Live rosin should be kept away from extreme or fluctuating temperatures. An environment that is too hot or too cold will lead to degradation and cause the rosin to oxidize. Always be sure to keep rosin in an airtight container, stored in a cool, dark place away from any heat sources. It can also be kept in the refrigerator on a short-term basis and in the freezer for long-term storage.

Resin needs to be kept in a cool, dark, and dry place and stored in an airtight container with limited exposure to air, light, and moisture. Consider using a POP VAC jar, which is both airtight and opaque. The minimal exposure to light keeps the resin as fresh and flavorful as possible.

           Is Rosin Better Than Resin?

As we know, live resin is slightly more potent than rosin. On the other hand, rosin is less restricted and easier to acquire. Many people consider resin to be of a better quality due to its method of extraction. It is widely agreed that what makes resin the more favorable choice is that it is richer in flavor, scent, and potency than many other types of cannabis extract.

Comparing Costs?

Live resin is one of the most potent and highest-quality concentrates that you'll find, and most people are pleasantly surprised to learn that it is less costly than live rosin. Why is this? Well, the market demand for the product, as well as the continuous refinement of the extraction process, is what makes it much more cost-effective to produce, therefore making it more affordable to the consumer.

Bong vs Bubbler: Choosing the Right Water Pipe for Your Needs

When it comes to smoking, both bongs and bubblers offer unique experiences, and choosing the right one depends on personal preference. Both devices use water filtration to help smooth out the smoke, but there are key differences between the two that could make one more suitable for you. Below, we break down the main factors that can help you decide which is best for your next smoking session.

What’s the Difference Between a Bong and a Bubbler?

Bongs and bubblers both use water to filter smoke, but they differ in size, design, and the experience they provide.

            Bongs

are larger, with a big water chamber, a bowl, and a downstream that leads to the mouthpiece. Bongs are great for group sessions, and they are designed to cool the smoke and filter out impurities for a smoother experience. Due to their size, bongs allow for more smoke to accumulate, which can result in stronger hits.

            Bubblers,

on the other hand, are smaller and more compact. They’re typically handheld and more portable, offering a great option for personal use. Although bubblers are smaller and may not cool the smoke as much as bongs, they still provide a smooth experience with a longer smoking session, especially when you're looking for something easier to carry.

           Water Capacity

The size of the water chamber is one of the primary differences between bongs and bubblers. Bongs typically have larger water chambers, which can hold more water to help cool the smoke and filter out impurities. This can lead to a smoother hit, making the smoking experience less harsh on the throat. Bubblers, while more portable, hold less water, meaning each hit may feel a bit harsher, especially for beginners.

            Size and Smoke Quality:

Bongs tend to be taller, providing more room for the smoke to circulate. This additional space allows the smoke to cool before it even enters the water, resulting in a smoother and less harsh hit. Bubblers, with their smaller, more compact size, don’t have as much room for smoke to cool, which can result in a hotter and harsher experience.

            Filtration Power:

Bongs usually come with advanced percolators that help diffuse the smoke into smaller bubbles, offering better filtration. This advanced filtration ensures smoother and cooler smoke. Some bongs can even be customized with multi-level percolators to further refine the experience. Bubblers, while effective at filtration, generally have fewer customization options and less advanced filtration systems compared to bongs.

            Hit Size:

The size of the device also affects the potency of your hit. Bong hits are typically more powerful because the bong can hold more smoke, which is then inhaled all at once. This can deliver stronger, more intense hits. Bubbler hits, however, tend to be more moderate and controlled, making them ideal for those who prefer a slower, more measured experience.

            Portability:

If portability is important to you, bubblers are the clear winner. Their small, handheld size makes them easy to carry and use wherever you go. Bongs, due to their larger size, are typically best used in a stationary setting and are less convenient for on-the-go use.

            Ease of Use:

Bubblers are often easier for beginners to use due to their simple design and smaller size. They are easy to fill, clean, and transport. Bongs, while providing a more advanced smoking experience, can be more cumbersome, with more parts to handle and clean, and may require a bit more experimentation to master.

What Is THC Resin: Cannabis Concentrate Guide & Uses

Cannabis comes in many forms, with one of the most exciting being THC resin. Resin is the basis for a ton of cannabis products, but it's also popular in its raw form. If you're looking to branch out and try new ways of enjoying cannabis, resin should be at the top of your list. Learn more about it and why you'll definitely love the experience of using it.

           What is Live Resin?

Resin is the amber or brown material secreted from the trichomes of mature cannabis. While every part of the plant has its use, resin is definitely the most valuable because it contains the majority of THC, the psychoactive compound in cannabis that gives you a high when ingested. Compared to methods like smoking or vaping, using resin packs an extra strong punch with faster, more intense results.

Live resin is a specific type of resin made only from fresh cannabis plants. It has a rich aroma and taste, setting it apart from other products that are typically made from dried plants. Between those qualities and its potency, many consider it to be the absolute peak of cannabis.

           How is it Extracted?

Live resin is extracted from (as we said) fresh cannabis exclusively. Once harvested, these plants are flash-frozen or fresh-frozen to preserve the terpenes responsible for flavor and potency, qualities that can be dampened through the traditional drying process. After freezing, a solvent like butane or propane is pumped in to separate the trichomes from the rest of the cannabis. The trichomes are then pressed to extract the super-fresh live resin.

Other forms of resin can also be extracted similarly, just using dried plants instead of fresh. Rolling trichomes squeeze out the resin, and filtering trichomes through a screen results in kief. You can also knock off trichomes by moving cannabis around in ice water, after which the trichomes are collected and pressed into hash.

It's also possible to extract resin on a smaller scale. Simply rub fresh cannabis between your fingers or a surface. The sticky substance that comes out of it will be the resin. Obviously, though, this poses a lot of issues for quality control and scale, so it's probably not the most reliable.

           Types of Cannabis Resin Products

Various cannabis products are made from resin. The most basic would be hash or hashish, which is simply resin compressed into small pucks. To use it, just break off a piece and smoke as desired.

Kief is another product made by filtering and powderizing trichomes. This substance can be sprinkled onto other forms of cannabis or added to food as an edible to enhance potency.

           How to Smoke Resin

Resin is easy to smoke in several ways. One thing some do is add a bit to a bowl or blunt, the extra potency of the resin enhancing an otherwise normal smoke.

However, if you want to use resin on its own, dabbing is the preferred method. Balls of resin can be placed in the nail and then smoked like any other concentrate.

Due to its potency, live resin is also a popular choice for use in edibles, particularly in elements that remain uncooked. You can also add it to lotions or balms for an extra kick of cannabis.

CBG vs CBD: Differences, Benefits & Uses Explained

Cannabis is a complex compound filled with many different compounds—that's what makes it such a potentially powerful and beneficial substance. What Is CBG?

CBG, or cannabigerol, is a cannabinoid with non-psychoactive qualities—it can even neutralize part of the effects of THC. Research into CBG has discovered that the compound may offer the following health benefits:

CBG is a main compound in young cannabis plants, but it quickly develops into either CBD or THC as the plant matures.

People interested in cannabinoid-based products can find capsules, gummies, and oils. These supplements contain easily absorbed CBG without THC.

           What Is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a major cannabinoid, and it's one of the most well-known compounds in the hemp and cannabis markets. Like CBG (and unlike THC), it does not have psychoactive effects and will not make you high. But it does offer many potentially beneficial effects, such as alleviation of inflammation and anxiety, relaxing effects that may counter insomnia and pain, and even reduction of seizures. People have also found that CBD can help smokers reduce or eliminate smoking and handle withdrawal symptoms. Scientific bodies are continually researching the potential medical benefits of CBD in different contexts, and there are many supplements, oils, and CBD products on the market.

           How Are They Different?

So, what's the difference between CBD and CBG? While CBD and CBG are both non-psychoactive cannabinoids, they behave very differently. Most strains of cannabis also have far more CBD than CBG because CBD is a major cannabinoid, while CBG is a minor cannabinoid.

Both compounds offer significant medical benefits when properly used as therapeutic treatments. However, the diseases and conditions they target differ. CBD, for example, can assist with anxiety, addiction, seizures, and anxiety or mood disorders. CBG supplements, on the other hand, show promise in addressing multiple sclerosis and other neurological disorders, as well as IBD and inflammatory conditions.

Another difference between the two is that CBD has had more research than CBG—the scientific claims behind many of CBD's effects are generally more robust and supported.

In the CBG vs. CBD debate, is CBG stronger than CBD? It depends on the intended application. For example, research has found that CBG offers stronger energizing capabilities. Users can consume CBG supplements for energy, focus, and productivity. CBD, however, offers stronger relaxation effects and can help improve sleep. But neither cannabinoid is inherently stronger than the other.

Benefits—How to Use CBG and CBD?

There are many different products that contain CBG and CBD, so you can harness their potentially powerful effects. Here are different ways to use CBD and CBG:

            Oils and tinctures

: You can take a few drops of cannabinoid-infused oils by placing them under your tongue for fast absorption and effects within half an hour. While they have a similar application method, they are different—oils suspend the cannabinoid in an oil carrier, while tinctures suspend the cannabinoid in alcohol.

Understanding Sativa, Indica, and Hybrid Strains

Understanding what sets the three main categories of cannabis products apart from each other is key when it comes to making sure that you are considering cannabis strains that are actually capable of providing the specific benefits you have in mind. Cannabis strains are typically Indica dominant or Sativa dominant, which describe the types of plants that are used to make them. Indica strains contain higher levels of CBD than THC, while Sativa strains contain more THC than CBD.

Sativa strains are made from tall and thin leaves, and they are generally known for their energizing properties. While there are exceptions, these strains are typically the best starting point when considering cannabis products that have the best potential to boost productivity. Indica strains generally take the opposite approach. These strains are made from shorter and wider leaves, and they provide a calming and relaxing effect that often makes them a more appropriate choice for enjoying in the evening than earlier in the day. Hybrid strains are capable of providing reasonably high results in both areas.

Most types of cannabis that are known for providing energy and productivity are classified as Sativa strains. Some of the most popular options to try when exploring productivity-boosting cannabis products include:

           Combining Cannabis With Productive Techniques

Responsible cannabis consumption can be a helpful part of a productive lifestyle, but it is generally a good idea to avoid relying too heavily on its effects alone for more than occasional needs. How a specific product affects your body may fluctuate over time if you consume an unusually high amount of it, and many products are impractical or illegal to consume at work or in certain other public places. Combining your new favorite cannabis product with a variety of productivity techniques often provides stronger and more sustainable results. Some ideas for adding non-cannabis productivity to your life include:

How to Clean a Bong: Step-by-Step Guide & Tips

Smoking weed with a bong has a lot of advantages. The water filters the smoke. Ice in the catch (or chilling the bong/water) cools the smoke, so it's easier on your throat and lungs. You can take bigger hits, and it's fun to pass around the bong at a party. But a dirty bong is a lot less fun. As resin builds up inside your bong, you'll want an efficient bong-cleaning method to keep your hits clean and cool.

How do you clean a bong? Whether this is your first bong or you're looking to improve your technique, we've got the inside scoop on bong cleaning to keep your glass, silicone, or acrylic sparkling for nice, clean hits.

First, gather your supplies. You can buy a bong-cleaning solution with special ingredients like diatomaceous earth, but you can also get a bong really clean with everyday supplies you might already have at home (and are handy to keep around for other tasks).

Ask any experienced bong owner, and they'll recommend isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) as the go-to cleaning solution. "Iso" softens and dissolves the resin so it is released from the bong. This includes both the chunks of resin and the thin patina of resin that coats the inside of the glass or silicone.

It's also good to have a scrubbing agent. Many people suggest rock salt, but we find borax (a common household cleaner often used in laundry) to be even more effective.

Note: Do not use isopropyl on acrylic.

           2.) Bong Cleaner Solution

You can buy branded bong cleaning solutions. These are very effective and take less work, but are much higher in price and not useful for other tasks around the house.

3.) Heat and a Wire Coathanger

If your goal is to harvest resin (or you don't have any isopropyl alcohol), you can use heat in the form of lighter or hot water to scrape the inside of your bong with a shaped coathanger. This often results in masterful wire sculpting to get a wire that is exactly the right angle to reach all those hard-to-reach angles inside your bong.

How to Clean Your Bong and Remove Resin

What makes a bong "dirty" is the built-up resin film on the inside of the bong. You can harvest that resin with a heat-and-scrape, but that is rarely necessary anymore. The most efficient method is the shake and rinse.

           1.) Shake and Rinse

Fill your bong chamber about halfway with bong cleaner or isopropyl alcohol. If you're using iso, add 1-2 tablespoons of rock salt or borax to help scrub the resin as the solvent breaks it up.

Seal the stem and top with your palms and shake thoroughly. Shake the solution so that it swishes with force over every inner section of your bong. Turn it upside down to fill the neck and shake it to clean the patina from the tube. Turn it sideways and shake back and forth to clean the stem. Shake aggressively up and down to clean any inner features like a percolator or glass sculpture. Swish it around to get every inch of the inner chamber. Then pour out the cleaning mixture and rinse with hot (but not boiling) water.

           2.) Heat and Scrape

Whether you're harvesting resin or trying to perfectly clean a hard-to-reach area, heating the bong and scraping it with a section of wire coathanger (as mentioned above) can be effective. Heat a section of the bong with your lighter and practice bending your coathanger into various shapes to reach around corners and scrape those elusive areas.

Note: Do not use boiling hot water, as this can cause shock cracks in glass or acrylic bongs.

How Do I Clean Acrylic Bongs?

Acrylic is unique. It's harder to break by dropping but can't use isopropyl or cleaning solutions based on isopropyl. Instead, use a strong vinegar solution. The acid will help break down the resin instead.

What Are Hard Water Stains, and How Do I Clean/Prevent Them?

90% of homes in the US have hard water in the taps. This means there are extra minerals like calcium and magnesium in the water. It tends to leave a chalky white residue on everything when the water dries and can result in hard water stains in your bong, too.

Fortunately, hard water is easy to deal with. The answer is vinegar.

Vinegar breaks down those mineral deposits and rinses clean. Use a dash of borax or rock salt just like you would when cleaning resin. Rinse out the bong, and those hard water stains will clear right away.

Weed & Period Cramps: Can Cannabis Help with Menstrual Pain?

Period pain is often treated as though it's an unavoidable part of life for women. Cramps and other symptoms can interfere with normal activities and, in severe cases, even be debilitating. Doctors don't have many reliable answers for these problems, but many women have found relief from weed.

The Role of Cannabis in Pain Relief

Two subjects that are understudied in the scientific community are period pan and how cannabis affects the body. However, there is some research being done on the topic of weed and menstrual symptoms. What's even more compelling is the mountain of anecdotal evidence from women who say that it works for them.

One of the issues that makes it difficult to pin down how weed works on menstrual pain is that this problem can have several different sources. Women may experience pain due to endometriosis, fibroids, a genetic condition, or pelvic inflammatory disease. It's a complex problem, and medical science can't satisfactorily explain why so many women suffer. This makes it difficult to pin down exactly how weed could be helping or why it relieves pain.

What scientists do know is that cannabinoids, such as THC and CBD, work differently than medications such as ibuprofen. Instead of blocking the production of prostaglandins in the body, cannabinoids seem to reduce nerve inflammation. At the same time, they boost the release of dopamine in the brain, so pain relief is coupled with an elevated mood.

While the science behind using weed to treat period pain isn't clear yet, many women are convinced: it helps them feel better. Women report that weed use not only reduces their pain but also improves the emotional/mental symptoms they have, such as anger, irritability, anxiety, and mood swings. It also helps them sleep better, which is a huge benefit for overall well-being.

What Cannabis Strains Help with Period Cramps?

If you're ready to see if weed can give you the relief you've been searching for, the first step is to figure out what strain is right for you. To help you narrow down the options, it helps to understand that cannabis strains fall into one of three categories, and they each have different effects on the body.

Sativa strains generally have higher levels of THC and lower CBD. These strains typically produce a stronger mental effect, to relax you and reduce anxiety. They're also good for pain relief, so if you're suffering from cramps and foggy thinking, opt for a sativa strain, such as White Rhino.

Hybrid strains combine the best of both types. The amount of THC and CBD varies, depending on the specific hybrid, so you may have to experiment a little to find the one that hits the mark for you. Two hybrid strains that people like for menstrual problems are Blue Dream and Pineapple Express.
